SCAN Tarragona is an international photography festival that, since 2008, has been dedicated to supporting, promoting and presenting the work of emerging artists.
Its programme includes initiatives such as the international exhibition Talent Latent, portfolio reviews and the Full Contact – Fundació Privada Mútua Catalana Award, the Òcul podcast, the artist publication Bloc, exhibitions such as the one devoted to Mediterranean cultures at Refugi 1 and presentations of national artists at Mèdol – Tarragona Contemporary Arts Centre, SCAN Films, Biblioscan —which brings photography to Tarragona’s public library network— and the SCAN Actiu programme, fostering participatory photographic practices and engaging neighbourhoods and underrepresented communities. Together, these initiatives have positioned the festival as a key platform for contemporary photography in Spain.
The festival is organised by Tarragona City Council, with the support of the Department of Culture of the Government of Catalonia, Tarragona Provincial Council, the Port of Tarragona, the Tarragona Museum of Modern Art (MAMT), the National Archaeological Museum of Tarragona (MNAT), the Image Centre (CIT) L’Arxiu, and Mèdol – Tarragona Contemporary Arts Centre, along with an extensive network of local public and private institutions.
